BEAUTY AS A COURAGEOUS CHOICE

Dries Van Noten

BEAUTY AS A COURAGEOUS CHOICE

25 September - 7:15PM, Fondazione Giorgio Cini

After a hugely successful career in fashion, Dries Van Noten is now dedicating himself to craftsmanship, culture and beauty. His cultural non-profit institution Fondazione Dries Van Noten, at Palazzo Pisani Moretta in Venice, aims to celebrate the human dimension of making and demonstrate the vital importance of craftsmanship as a language of cultural identity. Its current exhibition, The Only True Protest is Beauty, brings together established and emerging creators across art, design, fashion, architecture and food to explore the notion of beauty as a charged encounter, capable of unsettling the familiar and making space for the unexpected. In this conversation, Dries explains why beauty is not a luxury but a human necessity that we should be fighting to preserve. Informed by what artisans have taught him about excellence and meaning, he shares his views on the transformative power of craftsmanship and the role of beauty in a standardised world. In these fragile and uncertain times, is choosing beauty a courageous act?
